This innovative opera performance staged in September 2008 saw Vittorio perform the role of Alfredo, alongside Eva Mei (Violetta) and Angelo Veccia (Giorgio Germont,) amid throngs of commuters at Zurich’s main train station. The singers were also joined by the chorus and orchestra of the Zurich Opernhaus under the musical direction of Paolo Carignani.
La Traviata at Zurich’s Main Railway Station was a pioneering arts project produced by Schweizer Fernsehen (SF) in cooperation with the Franco-German culture channel Arte, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and Zurich Opernhaus. The three-hour opera presented major technical and artistic challenges being staged lived from various parts of the concourse, cafe and platform area, but it met with great interest within the station and generated impressive viewing figures, with over 577,000 people watching the live broadcast at home and online.
